Vintage like… Emilie

emilie

My name is Emilie and I live in London. I come from Hyères in the south of France.

My passion for vintage started when I was a little girl sneaking around my mum’s and my grandma’s closets. I also use to go to the flee market with my dad every sunday. I always considered those objects from the past as treasures. And of course the eco-friendly aspect of buying second-hand is a mark of respect to the planet, knowing that the clothing industry is the second most polluting industry in the world.
Living in London gives me the opportunity to have access to many vintage shops. However my favourite ones are in the south of France, in Aix-en-Provence and Toulon. There I can find very tastefully-selected pieces and the set up of the boutiques is always very nice.

My influences are very broad because of my artistic job and I always feel the need to be inpired by different art movements. However my Italian origins and my childhood near the Mediterannean sea developed a passion for fitted dresses from the 40’s and 50’s. Later, my move to London was a key point in the search of my personal style. I have to confess that the British capital made my clothing choices more daring!

I don’t have one favourite piece but two. The first one is a gold medal from my great grandmother. It shows a star and on it is written, “May that star bring you happiness”. Today it is more than a hundred years old! The second piece is this fabulous dress (see picture) found in Aix-en-Provence (at JoliBambi’s). It fits so well that it looks it wast tailored to me. And what beautiful flowers which seem to be painted by hand! Emilie
