Costa Rica : “Ropa americana”

Vintage and second hand is a great deal in Costa Rica, where an important proportion of the population buy their clothes in shops called “ropa americana”. The name translates to “american clothing”, pointing to the fact that almost every garment comes from the USA.  If you’re looking for vintage treasures you’ll have to dig deep, because vintage garments are mixed together with newer second hand clothes. In the most remote villages, one sunday a month, you’ll find lots of vintage and second hand clothing for sale in the yard of the local school. The picture was taken one of these sundays in Santa Teresa, a small town on the pacific coast.

Also, once a month in the capital, San Jose, there’s a big vintage and upcycling market (with live DJ’s and great atmosphere) called SJO BAZAR… make sure to don’t miss it!
